GLBT Caucus of the Democratic Party of Hawaii

The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgendered Caucus of the Democratic Party of Hawaii is dedicated to the vision of seeking and achieving freedom, equality and justice for all.

UNITE HERE! Local 5

image "The Political Action Committee and Executive Board of UNITE HERE! Local 5 - a local labor organization representing over 10,500 hotel and health care workers throughout the State has voted to endorse Congressman Neil Abercrombie in the 2010 Gubernatorial election race."

From the earliest days of Hawaii’s tourist industry, Local 5 has led Hawaii hotel workers to fight for good, secure jobs with a future, in an industry where most workers around the world work below the poverty line. As tourism has grown in size and importance in Hawaii’s economy, Local 5′s role has been increasingly vital over the years to the economic health of our entire state, setting high standards for wages and benefits that help drive better conditions for all Hawaii workers.

Progressive Democrats of Hawai‘i

image Progressive Democrats of Hawai‘i is an affiliate of the Progressive Democrats of America.

Our mission is to build unity among progressive individuals and advance progressive values in the Democratic Party of Hawai‘i. We work to elect progressive Democrats to office, encourage other progressives to join the Party and become effective within it, and attempt to get more progressive policies and positions adopted in the Party. University of Hawaii Professional Assembly

image The University of Hawaii Professional Assembly Board of Directors has endorsed Congressman Neil Abercrombie for Governor of Hawaii for his dedication to education.

“Congressman Abercrombie made it clear that Hawaii’s economic future is intimately connected to the future of the University of Hawaii system,” said J.N. Musto, UHPA executive director. “The quality and competitiveness of tomorrow’s workforce depends entirely on the investment we make today in higher education.”

The UHPA Board of Directors voted to endorse Congressman Abercrombie after meeting with him. The UHPA Board of Directors noted that Abercrombie both believed in and demonstrated the fundamental values that have been at the core of Hawaii’s social contract for the last 50 years.

“UHPA stands with Neil in his commitment to equal opportunity for all of Hawaii’s residents and a strong, vibrant economy that both honors and protects Hawaii’s unique environment and history,” Musto said. “In short, his advocacy for education—both higher and lower—and his dedication to a sustainable Hawaii through responsible economic growth make him the most qualified candidate for governor of our state.”

The UHPA has been the exclusive bargaining agent for all faculty members of the University of Hawaii system since November 1, 1974. The UH System is governed by one Board of Regents and includes seven Community Colleges, UH-Hilo, UH-Manoa, and UH-West Oahu. The UHPA is the elected faculty union as set forth in Hawaii Revised Statutes, Chapter 89.

International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers

image Three local unions of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers that represent more than 7,500 of Hawaii’s working men and women have endorsed Neil
Abercrombie for Governor.

IBEW Locals 1186, 1260, and 1357 made the unified endorsement. The three locals represent electricians, utility workers, power plant workers, technicians, telephone
workers and television camera people working in Hawaii.

“Neil Abercrombie has a proven record of supporting causes that benefits Hawaii’s working families,” said Lance Miyake, IBEW Local 1260 Business Manager and Financial Secretary. “Neil is committed to restoring the state’s economy and creating more jobs for the people of Hawaii.”

“Over the years of serving Hawaii, Neil Abercrombie has shown he has the leadership, experience and commitment the people of Hawaii needs in their next Governor,” said Damien Kim, Business Manager and Financial Secretary of IBEW Local 1186. “We look forward to doing everything we can to elect him as our next governor to build a brighter future for all of us in Hawaii.”

“We continue our support to elect Neil Abercrombie as our next governor,” said Scot Long, Business Manager and Financial Secretary of Local 1357, which had endorsed Abercrombie last year. “We believe in Neil’s leadership to restore the trust that many of us have lost in our government.”
