Senator Inouye Remaining Neutral
Senator Daniel Inouye has said on several occasions that he will not endorse nor provide support for a candidate in the primary election for the governor’s race. In June, Hawaii’s senior senator visited the Abercrombie for Governor’s headquarters for a tour and to meet Neil and campaign volunteers.
QUESTION: Is Senator Inouye supporting Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann for governor?
ANSWER: NO. Senator Inouye has said on several occasions that he will remain neutral and will NOT endorse a candidate for the primary election in the governor’s race.
At a fundraiser in November 2009,
Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann told his supporters, “There is no secret, my friends, and I will say it tonight that Senator Inouye is encouraging us to seek the top seat in Hawaii.”
The next morning, Senator Inouye’s press secretary was quick to
respond, saying the senator has not endorsed any candidate for governor.
In a public show of his neutrality, Senator Inouye visited Neil’s campaign headquarters in June for a tour and to meet campaign volunteers, as reported in the
KITV story “Senator Inouye Stays Neutral in Race for Governor."
